Over the weekend, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei caused a stir: After AI agents acting on their own initiative had repeatedly caused a stir in the recent past, he called for nothing less than a slowdown in AI research. Other AI executives, such as Sam Altman, agreed with him.
One tech executive, however, disagrees: Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang assured U.S. President Donald Trump live on stage that this will not happen.

Nvidia is one of the biggest beneficiaries of the AI boom; after all, virtually all major AI models are trained and run on Nvidia chips. The company’s interest in the technology’s development is correspondingly high.
Jensen Huang, the CEO of Nvidia, was recently on stage at the “All In Summit” in Los Angeles talking with some podcasters when he received a call from U.S. President Donald Trump. Huang answered the call live and even put it on speakerphone so the audience could follow the conversation.
The call came at a convenient time, as the show was just discussing Dario Amodei’s call to slow down AI development in order to address safety concerns. Huang, unsurprisingly, isn’t a big fan of that idea. And neither is Donald Trump, apparently.

When asked about this, Trump said:
“You’re playing right into the hands of many people who don’t want that to happen […] That could be politicians. It could also be China. And we won’t allow that. That’s a false alarm.”

It’s unclear whether the call actually happened by chance at exactly the right moment—or whether it was, in fact, a PR stunt. Either way, it certainly had an impact, as the audience’s reaction shows. There has been no response yet from Dario Amodei or other AI executives. However, the situation surrounding AI research could still get interesting.
