Developer Bohemia Interactive reacts with a side blow to the end of Fntastic. Until December 21, you can save on the Steam purchase of the survival bundle The Day After

When two quarrel, the third is happy … and the fourth. That’s probably what the developers of the two survival games DayZ and Icarus thought. While the whole gaming world is upset about the big drama surrounding The Day Before and is giving free rein to its disappointment, the two studios are jumping on the bandwagon with a Steam sale. And with a huge wink.

The Day After: DayZ and Icarus on sale on Steam

The two studios Bohemia Interactive and RocketWerkz are joining forces for this cooperation and releasing the survival bundle The Day After on SteamUntil December 21, you can get DayZ and Icarus with a discount of 33 percent for around 50 euros

(Here you can go directly to the sale bundle )

For whom is DayZ worthwhile?  The zombie survival game originally started as a mod for Arma 2, but was later developed as an independent title in Early Access.

In an open world overrun by zombies, you fight for your survival: Food, water, equipment, weapons – these will all determine how far you get. Incidentally, the game does not give you a story – you write the story yourself. Encounters with other players can also help, as they can throw a spanner in the works at any time.

DayZ is a real highlight among hardcore survival games despite the lack of fine-tuning and is probably the best game to fill the hole left by The Day Before.

Who should play Icarus? The survival game with a focus on crafting was created by Dean Hall, the inventor of DayZ. Instead of fighting zombies in the post-apocalypse, this time players are sent to alien planets. Here, too, you have to survive by gathering resources, building a dwelling and holding your own against the alien fauna.

Alone or with up to eight players in co-op, you will develop increasingly complex technologies and face the challenges of the alien worlds. At its launch in December 2021, the survival game received a lot of criticism, not least because of its technical performance. Two years later, the mood of the community has improved significantly. A full 83 percent of reviews in the last 30 days are positive.

Not the first side-swipe

While the Steam page does not officially state this, the name “The Day After” is clearly a reference to the flop of the highly anticipated survival game The Day Before. The sale also went live on December 12, one day after the controversial game was removed from Steam.

This is not the first jab at the now-defunct studio Fntastic. On December 11, the DayZ developers published a post on X (formerly Twitter) celebrating the 10th anniversary of their game

Why is that mocking? The post was made just a few hours after the official announcement of Fntastic’s closure. The developers were also very much inspired by the layout of the original post. The action was received with mixed feelings by players.

But behind the wink this time, of course, lies more than just pure mockery of a failed game, but also a clever marketing strategy With the Steam sale, the developers are trying to make up for the disappointed players left behind by The Day Before.

What do you think of the promotion? Are you happy about the sale and are you going to buy it straight away? Are you perhaps already long-time fans of the games? Or do you think the developers are going too far with their mockery and shouldn’t be so happy about the failure of the survival game The Day Before? Let us know your opinion in the comments!
