A glitch in the Xbox Store reveals the trailer for Shrek 2 Remastered. The remake features 4K graphics, a new co-op mode, and modern features.

The big green ogre, who just wants to enjoy the peace and quiet of his swamp, is back. Or at least he will be soon, because a glitch on Xbox has given us the chance to take a first look at the trailer for Shrek 2 Remastered. Neither developer Aspyr Media nor Xbox itself has commented on this yet. Since the first DreamWorks film, Shrek has etched himself into the hearts and minds of fans and had a massive influence on meme culture.

Xbox Store leak reveals the trailer

As a pop culture icon, Shrek is also returning to the big screen next year. The fifth installment of the film series is set to premiere in late June 2027, and Donkey will also get his own solo adventure in 2028. While we can’t expect a new game featuring the daring hero in the gaming world just yet, we’ll soon be getting a remaster of the second installment, which is the game based on the movie Shrek 2.

An accidental leak from Xbox gave us a first look at the trailer. It recently appeared on the Xbox Store but was taken down again shortly thereafter. However, some users were quick enough to share the trailer on social media.

Neither Xbox nor Aspyr has commented on the slip-up yet, but it’s believed the trailer was actually supposed to be unveiled at the Xbox Showcase on October 20.

4K graphics, co-op mode, and platform rumors

Shrek 2 is said to feature better textures, an improved user interface, 4K resolution, and cutscenes, as well as a photo mode and a cheat mode. In addition to online and local co-op modes, rumors suggest there will also be a mixed co-op mode in which four players can play together simultaneously online and in couch co-op.

Even though the trailer only shows Series X/S at the end, rumors persist that the remaster will also be released for PlayStation and Switch consoles. However, it remains unclear for now whether this is true and exactly which consoles the game would be released on. The odds look better for a PC release, though. Following a major Steam achievements leak in September, hints of a Shrek 2 remaster were found there as well. However, it’s still unclear when the game will be released.
