For the first time since The Sims Online, The Sims is back with multiplayer. Is that why The Sims 5 is becoming an MMO? The developers speak out on fan concerns.

The Sims 5 will still be a long time coming and concrete details are scarce. One thing is for sure: It will put a big focus on the multiplayer mode – something that hasn’t been done since The Sims Online in 2002. So will The Sims 5 be an MMO? The developers have now commented on this.

Reallife-Sim Géraldine has pretty high hopes and expectations for The Sims 5, by the way. Why the upcoming life simulation from developer studio Maxis will change the genre forever!

What exactly does this mean for The Sims 5? According to Rodiek, players will be able to decide for themselves whether and how much they play The Sims 5 alone or with other people. Maxis wants to preserve the familiar gameplay and the classic fascination of The Sims in part 5, but expand it with multiplayer elements.

Furthermore, there are hardly any details about how the multiplayer of The Sims 5 will ultimately work. However, the developer update does contain some new information. A few seconds of the video show what decorating a flat together with other players looks like: Several players push furniture through a house with visible colour markings, which makes it clear who is currently working on what.

(Relationships and friendships have already broken down when decorating real flats. Whether it works better in The Sims 5 remains to be seen.)

What do you think The Sims 5 has to offer and what does the game have to do without in order to convince you? What are your hopes and expectations for the multiplayer components of the upcoming life simulation? Let us know in the comments!
