It took a YouTuber less than a quarter of an hour to finish Elden Ring. A strange jumping mechanic was used to achieve this.
Update as of 11 April, 11:58 a.m.: Currently, the world record in Elden Ring is falling every few hours. Of course we can’t include every update, but we would like to highlight a particularly important milestone for speedrunners: The ten-minute mark was broken.
It took a player just 8 minutes and 56 seconds to complete Elden Ring – you have to read that twice to really believe it. You can watch the complete run here, it won’t take long:
Update as of 10 April, 13:09: We mentioned the possibility in the original article, that’s when it happened. The world record in Elden Ring has been beaten again thanks to a few more tweaks and now stands at 12 minutes and 13 seconds. This means that the record below has already been beaten by 20 seconds, as you can see here.

Original post 10 April 2022: How long did it take you to see the intended ending of Elden Ring? Days? Weeks? It took YouTuber Mitchriz just under 13 minutes. Sounds impossible, of course it is in the intended way.
So, as you could probably already guess, some glitches were used here that had already made previous games by Fromsoftware popular and worth seeing speedrun candidates. Above all, the so-called zips were the key to success. You’ll find out what they are in a few moments.
Above the clouds, freedom is boundless
Simply running from boss to boss and sending them to the mat according to the rules is obviously not possible if you want to finish the game in a measly 12 minutes and 33 seconds. That’s why YouTuber Mitchriz primarily used zips, which is ultimately a glitch in the game logic and allows the character to simply skip entire areas by gliding across the game world.
What does the whole thing look like in action? Here you can watch the record run in full length:
The way it works is obvious, but if you still don’t know what to do and want to try zipping yourself, here’s how to do it:
- Equip your character with a shield and take a block stance
- Press the W button at the right moment (this is the “take a run-up”, so to speak)
Just two steps? This may sound simple, but it is not. Because here it simply depends on the precise timing of when you press the W key. You have to get the timing of the block animation right, otherwise nothing will happen. You can read more details about the surprisingly complex process in the (Speedsouls-Wiki).
There is still room for improvement
Mitchriz himself is very happy with his record-breaking run. He speaks of an absolutely crazy run. The Zips were clean from start to finish. But at the same time he also hints that even a little more time could be rasped off the stopwatch, as the so-called mega-zip needed several attempts at the end.
An amusing detail on the side: Although Elden Ring is significantly larger than its ancestors in terms of size, it can even be speedrun faster thanks to the Zip technology! The current world records are 21 minutes (Dark Souls), 14 minutes (Dark Souls 2) and even 31 minutes (Dark Souls 3).
