Grim Dawn: Fangs of Asterkarn leads a surprisingly strong summer week featuring action RPGs, a promising RTS, and a sword-wielding dinosaur.
As expected, the big AAA blockbusters are taking a back seat in the height of summer, but this week on Steam proves that we don’t need them at all. A cult-favorite action RPG is getting its final, biggest expansion after over a decade—and is likely to lure loot hunters back in droves once again.

This Week’s Highlight: Grim Dawn: Fangs of Asterkarn

Some games just won’t let go—and neither will their fans.& nbsp;Grim Dawnwas released in 2016, has sold over five million copies, and still maintains a 90 percent positive rating on Steam. With Fangs of Asterkarn, Crate Entertainment is now releasing the third and final add-on. It’s the biggest expansion the dark action RPG has ever received.
You’ll get acompletely new region that, according to Steam, expands the game world by about a third,
plus the tenth mastery in the series: the Berserker,a shapeshifter class that lets you change form in the middle of combat. Anyone who loves Grim Dawn knows what this means for the already absurd number of class combinations.
On top of that, there’s anew endgame modecalled Ascendant for everyone who has long since surpassed the max level and is craving the next challenge. So there’s no shortage of content for hundreds more hours of gameplay.
The best part: Even those who don’t buy the expansion will benefit. At the same time, the free Patch 1.3 is being released, bringing a completely revamped interface, WASD controls at last, and HDR support. It launches onJuly 23 at 4:00 p.m.our time, and the price is around 18 euros. Important for newcomers—the expansion requires the base game as well as the two previous DLCs, Ashes of Malmouth and Forgotten Gods.

- The Life and Suffering of Prince Jerian: If you enjoy narrative role-playing games, you should check this out. From the team behind the highly acclaimed Sir Brante comes another RPG where every decision comes at a price. This time, you take on the role of a crown prince whose path is paved with duty, betrayal, and consequences. The demo impressed with 95 percent positive reviews.
- EverRail (Early Access):The Munich-based studio Aesir Interactive (known for Police Simulator) is venturing into the survival genre for the first time. On a frozen exomoon, a moving train is humanity’s last refuge—and it only recharges its systems as long as it keeps moving. You’ll gather resources, expand your rolling base, and rescue passengers who serve as extra lives. Play solo or with up to four players in co-op.
- G-Rebels (Early Access): If you still hold a place in your heart for the PS1 classic G-Police, this one’s for you. German studio Reakktor sends you, as a fighter pilot, soaring over the rooftops of neon-lit megacities in a dystopian open world set in the year 2684—spanning more than 12,000 square kilometers. You’ll equip your glider with weapons, shields, and drones, and complete both story and side missions. At launch, the Early Access version even includes a native VR mode with a cockpit view.

- Scarlet Deer Inn: Arguably the most beautiful game of the week comes from a Czech couple who spent five years working on it. The 2D platformer tells a dark medieval folk tale—and every single animation frame was actually hand-embroidered. You follow the mother, Elise, through a village that seems more innocent than it really is.
- Samurai: Ronin’s Path:In feudal Japan, you’ll slice your way through hordes of enemies with your katana in this top-down action game, unlock new abilities, and dodge death. However, the demo received mixed reviews, so it’s worth checking out the initial ratings before you draw your blade.
- Drone Sector (Early Access):For military enthusiasts and wargamers, MicroProse is releasing a futuristic gunship simulator inspired by the AC-130 and MQ-9 Reaper. From the air, you provide covering fire for your ground troops, issue commands, gather resources, and research better weaponry.

- Tears of Metal (Early Access): If you just want to mow down hordes of enemies after a long day, this is the game for you. This Dynasty Warriors-style co-op hack-and-slash title sends you and a Scottish battalion through over 45 hand-crafted areas to reclaim your home island. Up to four players fight together, and between battles, you expand your village. The game is also included in Xbox Game Pass at launch.
- DragonSword: Awakening:A South Korean free-to-play gacha game is returning as a purely purchase-based title without the loot box nonsense—that doesn’t happen every day. This anime-style open-world RPG, built on the Unreal Engine 5, lets you lead 19 heroes in a tag-team battle against an awakened dragon.
- Hand of Fate: Hordes (Early Access):The creators of the Hand of Fate series are jumping on the Vampire Survivors bandwagon—and bringing their card game DNA along with them. In this bullet-hell auto-shooter, your deck determines which enemies, weapons, and modifiers you’ll face.
- Aquapark Tycoon (Early Access): If you prefer a more laid-back experience, build your own water park paradise here. In this classic building simulation, you’ll design and customize slides, pools, and saunas to keep your guests happy.

- Dinoblade:This week’s most bizarre idea comes from a single developer: You control a dinosaur wielding a greatsword longer than half its body and hack your way through a prehistoric world in Soulslike style. Behind Team Spino is Jean Nguyen, formerly an animator at Sucker Punch (Ghost of Tsushima). Over 460,000 wishlists and a demo with around 97 percent positive ratings speak for themselves.
- Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game:This week’s biggest licensed franchise ventures into the fighting arena. The hand-drawn 2D fighter brings together twelve characters from *Avatar: The Last Airbender* and *The Legend of Korra*, features rollback netcode and cross-play, and includes Story, Arcade, and Online modes.
- Tormentum 2:The Polish two-person studio OhNoo has spent eight years working on the sequel to its cult adventure game: over 150 hand-painted locations inspired by H.R. Giger and Zdzisław Beksiński, plus a branching story with multiple endings. A treat for point-and-click fans with a penchant for the nightmarish.
- Rubinite:As Princess Ruby, you’ll battle your way through a series of challenging boss fights, with a focus mechanic that reveals your enemies’ weak spots.
- Carnival Hunt (Early Access): To wrap up the busiest day of the week, things are about to get spooky. In this asymmetrical multiplayer horror game, one player takes on the role of a monster hunting the others, who scramble through a constantly shifting mechanical carnival as fleeing doll rabbits. If you like Dead by Daylight, you’ll find an alternative here.
Loot hunters are returning to Grim Dawn this week, action fans are diving into Dinoblade and Tears of Metal, strategists are checking out ZeroSpace and Aquapark Simulator, and those who prefer something calmer and more beautiful can lose themselves in Scarlet Deer Inn or Tormentum 2.
