What has long been promised is now becoming reality: Xbox userscan look forward to a greatly expanded streaming offering From now on, not only will Game Pass games be playable via the cloud, but selected titles purchased through regular channels can now also be streamed directly without downloading.

The feature, which was originally announced by Microsoft in 2019, took a few attempts before it became available to all Game Pass Ultimate subscribers. Initial tests were conducted at the end of 2024, initially on mobile devices and VR headsets such as the Meta Quest Since the beginning of the year, insiders have also been able to test the feature directly on the console.

Particularly convenient: supported titles are now marked with a cloud icon in your own library. Anyone who buys a new compatible game can even start streaming immediately via the store app – without any waiting time. The range currently includes over 100 games. These include new releases such as Lost Records: Bloom & Rage Tape 2, Wanderstop, and Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed.

Contagious gaming freedom instead of restricted areas for individual buyers

What may be happening discreetly in the background is of great importance to gamers. Until now, cloud gaming was tied to the Game Pass subscription – purchased games were not immediately playable if storage space was limited or a device change was pending. With this new step, Microsoft is opening the door to more flexible gaming across all platforms.

But it’s not just the streaming service that’s being revamped: the April update brings additional convenience features. The system now recognizes duplicate game versions and those for which a valid license no longer exists. This is definitely a practical help for storage management.

Important to know: Anyone who uses Remote Playwill have to use their device’s browser instead of the mobile Xbox app in the future. Microsoft hopes this will ensure better performance and faster updates in the long term.

The message is clear: Xbox wants to not only expand the gaming experience, but also finally dust it off – with more freedom, fewer barriers, and a real step toward the future of gaming.
