It is becoming increasingly likely that US media company Netflix will move into the video games market, according to several reports and rumours.

Netflix is currently looking for a new executive to help the platform move into the video game space. According to a report from news portal The Information, the company has already approached some experienced gaming executives and mouthpieces about possibly hiring them.

In addition, Netflix was already exploring the direction it could take with its video game plans. One of the potential plans could be some kind of online subscription that gives access to a bundle of games.

A Netlix representative already gave a statement to media outlets The Information and Polygon about the rumours. While they have not been directly confirmed, he said there are definitely plans to move in the direction of video games in general. “Our members value the variety and quality of our content,” the Netflix representative told gamespot. “That’s why we’ve continually expanded our offerings – from series to documentaries, movies, local language originals and reality TV.”

Making the connection between popular series and video games, the Netflix representative explains it from the company’s perspective: “Users also enjoy interacting more directly with the story they love – through interactive shows like Bandersnatch and You v. Wild, or games based on Stranger Things, La Casa de Papel and To All the Boys. So we want to do more with interactive entertainment.”

When it comes to series and movies, Netflix has already done something to curry favour with video game fans on several occasions. A new Castlevania season recently came out, Dota players could enjoy DOTA: Dragon’s Blood and an animated series on League of Legends is also in the works. In addition, further gaming titles are to be adapted in the form of a film.
