A new Minecraft map lets you travel through City 17 from Half-Life 2 once again as a coherent open world.

Now the Minecraft community is giving you the chance to revisit one of the most popular game worlds of all time as an open world: City 17 from Half-Life 2 has been completely recreated – and is set to grow even further in the future.

Five years of work for Half-Life 2 replica

What’s all in the fan project? The title of the YouTube video City-17 [Grand Project] initially suggests that this is simply a replica of the iconic city from Valve’s legendary first-person shooter. But the map covers much more.

In addition to the city area, you can also visit the sewers or the zombie-infested mining village of Ravenholm – but it’s best to take a look at the trailer for the ambitious Minecraft map for yourself:

According to the Russian fan-developer team United Builders, the project has been in development since 2016 – and there’s still no end in sight, even though the actual map is, strictly speaking, finished.

What is still to come? From the video description of the trailer, it can be seen that the map will be expanded to include other areas from other games in the Half-Life universe. Among other things, the makers talk about the Black Mesa research station from Half-Life and the Aperture Science lab complex from Portal.

How to play the map yourself

If you now want to explore the Half-Life 2 map in Minecraft yourself, here is a short guide for you:

Download the map from PlanetMinecraft.

– Press the Windows+R keys to open the Perform window and then type “%appdata%/.minecraft/saves/” in the command line. This will open the Saves folder.

– Drag the folder with the downloaded map from the archive into the saves folder.

– Start Minecraft and select the new map – done!

By the way, it’s not just Minecraft fans who recreate cool stuff, but also in other games like No Man’s Sky – where a fan recreated the Imperial Capital from The Elder Scrolls as a cool sci-fi version.
