Metal Eden’s demo impresses with fast-paced combat and a gripping story – and gives away $1,000! GlobalESportNews of course had to take part.

Normally we joke that the developers would have to pay us to try some games. But now there’s a $1,000 prize to be won if you dare to download the Metal Eden demo.

But the challenge wouldn’t be necessary: as fans of Doom and Titanfall (wall runs!), we’ve had a lot of fun with the single-player shooter already. To get an impression, you can watch the uncommented gameplay above.

If you also want to know what the $1,000 is all about, then just read on.

Those who are quick will be rewarded

Metal Eden is a sci-fi shooter that will be released for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC on May 6, 2025. Developed by Reikon Games, the creators of Ruiner, the title promises fast-paced combat.

The developers are now taking advantage of this speed for an original marketing campaign. Because anyone who completes the demo particularly quickly can look forward to a windfall: the top three players will share the prize money of $1,000.

The speedrun challenge runs until April 16, 2025. At the time of writing, the record was16 minutes and 41 seconds

A promising start

The Metal Eden demo includes the first two missions, cutscenes and a tutorial. Our first impression of the demo is positive: Metal Eden impresses with a high pace, intense gunfights and varied level design that skillfully combines wall runs, jumping passages and arena fights.

However, the story presentation takes itself very seriously – the full version will have to show whether this is a plus or a minus point. You play Aska, an advanced android that fights hostile machines in the artificial city of Moebius to save the consciousness of the colonists, which is stored in cores.

Cool stuff: You can rip cores out of enemies and throw them like grenades, or consume them for an extra-powerful melee attack. There’s double-jumping, wall-running and quick dodging for maximum mobility, and the good old jump pads are scattered around the environments too.
