A short trailer shows the fateful end of a stuffed bear and is fueling speculation among fans about the next enemy threat.
The next major update forHelldivers 2 is set to release on August 12. It may seem like a long way off, but it’s actually next week. It seems the Illuminate are once again trying to disrupt democracy, which must be defended by force of arms. At least, a teaser hints at the return of the alien squids.
Helldivers 2: The Illuminate are threatening your teddy bears!
Theofficial traileris just 33 seconds long and begins in a purple, weightless space. A teddy bear wearing Helldivers armor floats in this space. Although the slowly tinkling piano music with its ominous bass gives it a somewhat gloomy feel, it also seems peaceful in a way.
Then the mood shifts. Like in a horror movie, the background suddenly turns red. The teddy bear is brutally torn to shreds, but we don’t see who commits this gruesome act. It seems like an invisible force. At the same time, the music grows more intense.
In the end, the bear lies seemingly untouched on the forest floor. At least we can see Earth-like plants. Reflected in the stuffed animal’s button eye is a creature reaching for the teddy bear. In the comments, fans speculate that it’s an Illuminate. Many want to avenge the teddy bear. So the mood for the presumably impending battle is already building on its own.
Players will get their own little John Wick moment (here, a stuffed animal is avenged instead of a puppy) on August 12. The date is displayed at the end of the teaser. A full ten precious seconds of the teaser consist solely of the date and logo. A third of the video… Seriously, are they out of their minds over there at Super Earth? I’d much rather see more content! Oh well, but a teaser isn’t meant to reveal details or satisfy your thirst for knowledge—it’s meant to whet your appetite for more.
Even with the trailer for the new Galactic War Campaign called “Permanent Enclosure,” many fans were already certain that the Illuminate would be the next threat. And their suspicions have likely been confirmed by now.
