After suffering a serious injury, Ryan Hurst had to step down from the role of Kratos. Now Dave Bautista is in talks to step in for the Amazon series.

Amazon’s God of War TV series could really use a break from the gods right now. That’s because the project is currently without a lead actor following a serious injury to Ryan Hurst. But a replacement may already have been found:Dave Bautista.

Will Dave Bautista be Amazon’s new Kratos?

The 57-year-old actor and former wrestler hasn’t been cast yet, but according toVarietyandDeadline, he is in active negotiations for the role. If the deal goes through, the Amazon series could boast a true Hollywood heavyweight.

Dave Bautista is best known for his role as Drax the Destroyer inGuardians of the Galaxy. But even outside the Marvel Cinematic Universe, he has impressed audiences with films such asBlade Runner 2049,Dune 1and2,andGlass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery.

Amazon and Sony don’t have much time to spare, either. After Ryan Hurst tore his bicep, production on *God of War* had to be completely halted. Because Hurst’s injury would take too long to heal completely, the decision was made to recast the role.

Although four episodes had actually already been completely filmed, work is set to resume by the end of 2026 at the latest. And that means a new Kratos is needed.

Will Atreus Be Recast Too?

By the way:This is apparently not the only upcoming recasting for God of War. According to a report byMP1st, the roles of Atreus and Thrud are also set to be recast—for the planned second season.

The main reason for this is said to be the time jump between *God of War* and *Ragnarök*, which the series is set to adapt over two seasons. Accordingly, the production is looking for new actors to follow in the footsteps of Callum Vinson and Island Austin.

It is currently unknown when Amazon’s adaptation of *God of War* will premiere on Prime Video. While a 2027 release was originally anticipated, recent developments make a 2028 release much more likely.
