In the new platformer *Garfield – Escape from Monday*, the tabby cat must escape a nightmare in which vegetables and spinach lasagna are chasing him.
Lazing around, eating lasagna, and annoying his owner: Garfield’s leisurely cat life has inspired us to do nothing in comics, movies, and TV shows. Garfield has also been lounging on computer screens for quite some time. As early as 1986, Create with Garfield the first video game featuring the house cat (for Apple II, Commodore 64, and MS-DOS).
WithGarfield – Escape from Mondaythe latest appearance of the laid-back cat has now been announced. The 3D platformer naturally revolves around Garfield’s favorite food: lasagna.
A Vitamin-Rich Nightmare
Garfield’s owner, Jon, is, of course, responsible for kicking off the adventure. In an attempt to put his cat on a diet, he serves him spinach lasagna—a devilishly healthy version of Garfield’s favorite meal. Shortly afterward, the poor cat finds himself in a terrible nightmare:
In the game, we wander through Garfield’s dreams, which—as you’d expect—look pretty high in calories:Worlds made of cheese, hot dogs, fries, and, of course, plenty of lasagna.Only the nightmares are full of healthy vegetables and enemies (like a mouse in a mech!). Luckily, the cat gets help from his friends Odie, Arlene, and Pooky.
The developers also promiseturkey, surfer, and cowboy outfits that grant him incredible abilities
. But Garfield’s most important skills, of course, remain his insatiable appetite and his ability to always land on all four paws.
The development studio behind the new Garfield game is the French studio OSome Studio, which has a knack for working with comic book characters. OSome has already developed several games based on Asterix & Obelix and the Smurfs. A brieflook at Steamshows that the titles weren’t always exceptionally well-received by players.
We’ll soon find out how well *Garfield – Escape from Monday* does: The game is set to release on September 24, 2026, for PC, PS 5, and Xbox Series X/S. Of course, we checked: The release isn’t on Monday, but on Thursday—lucky for Garfield.
In addition to the release date, the system requirements have also been announced: With a recommended 16 gigabytes of RAM and a GTX 1070, the game is probably nowhere near as (hardware-)hungry as the cat in the lead role.
