Two months before the start of Gamescom 2024, PlayStation announces that it is canceling its participation. Once again, the company will not be taking part in the gaming trade fair in Cologne. This is the second major publisher to confirm its non-participation.

Gamescom 2024 will be deprived of two major publishers. First, Nintendo announced in April that it would be taking a break from this year’s trade fair. Now GamesWirtschaft has confirmed that PlayStation will also not be attending this year. The company did not reveal why it would not be attending Gamescom again

2019 was the last time PlayStation had a stand at the trade fair. Since then, fans have had to do without the publisher.

PlayStation will probably not be completely absent from Gamescom 2024. An appearance during theOpening Night LiveonAugust 20seems more than certain. In addition, games available for PlayStation will be playable at other booths, so fans can still get some insights into upcoming titles. For example, it is certain thatUbisoftandBandai Namcowill have a stand at the show.

The fact that PlayStation is pausing Gamescom 2024 does not seem entirely surprising given the current release calendar. After all, apart from Astro Botno releases are planned for the second half of the year.

As some insiders have already suspected, PlayStation does not appear to be planning to release any AAA titles of its own in the near future. Instead, the company seems to be focusing more on third-party games.
