Have you been looking forward to local multiplayer races with your friends? Then we unfortunately have some bad news for you.

Forza Motorsport is slowly but surely rolling out onto the grid. On 10 October 2023, the now eighth part of the popular racing game series from the house of Microsoft will be released, but this time without a number in the title. And that’s not the only thing the team is doing without.

A split-screen mode will also not be available for the time being. This means that local multiplayer races against your friends are out of the question. There is a reason for this decision on the part of the developer Turn10, but it is not very extensive.

Technical limitations are said to be to blame

In the August edition of the YouTube format Forza Monthly, creative director Chris Esaki comments on the lack of a splitscreen mode.

According to him, the graphical improvements and the major overhaul of the underlying rendering engine are responsible for it A split screen implementation is really difficult to implement at the moment

You can watch the passage around the multiplayer features of Forza Motorsport between minute 10:00 and 29:00:

The red pen doesn’t stop there: Fans will also have to do without some features in the featured multiplayer mode that were previously considered quite likely. For example, it will not be possible to attend a race as a spectator. In addition, it will not be possible to fill the driver field with AI opponents.

Especially the latter has caused a lot of criticism below the YouTube video. According to the developers, the decision was made because, in the worst case, AI opponents that are too aggressive could negatively affect the safety rating of a human player.

Do you consider split screen, spectator mode and the like to be indispensable features of a racing game and will you therefore not buy Forza Motorsport? Or do you mainly care about the most gripping single-player races possible, which is why this news doesn’t dampen your anticipation? Feel free to write us your opinion on the subject in the comments!
