First fixed, then not: the state of Flight Simulator 2024 is still difficult

Long waiting times, eternal loading screens – the servers of Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 were massively overloaded at release. Since then, it has been a back and forth.

The Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 is currently a minefield of bad puns, but we promise you: you won’t see the words crash landing and launch problems any more from here on out – at least in this article here. But the fact is, the situation around Microsoft’s mega-project has still not calmed down, even if it looked different at times.
What happened so far: When the game was launched on November 19, 2024, Microsoft’s servers broke down in droves under the enormous pressure from players. People stared at endless loading screens, the simulation spat out error messages, and in the end, most fans had no choice but to keep their own spirits up with gallows humor. Consequently, Steam ratings plummeted.

The back and forth after release

Then the all-clear: A few hours later, the official Flight Simulator support account reported that the server problems had been resolved. People should now be able to log into the game as normal. Reality looked and looks different.

A few hours later, the official X presence of the developers reported that despite increased server capacity, login problems still existed. The message read as follows:

We have increased our server capacity and are seeing more players able to access the simulation, however login issues persist.

This is not the launch experience we want for our players, and we apologize to the community. We will continue to work with our partners and provide updates 24/7 until the issues are resolved.

The current state

Our test team has been busy putting Flight Simulator 2024 through its paces since release and is happy to report: at least the login issues are now a thing of the past. We can actually always access the servers without any problems. Unfortunately, the story doesn’t end there.

What we are still seeing: The correct loading of data from the server often does not work. Our colleague Kevin says: It’s almost a game of chance whether the maps, cockpits and graphics are displayed correctly. For example, the landing gear is missing from his jet. So in the game.

When the simulator is running, it looks better than before, but Microsoft and the developers still have a lot of work to do to get the live data displayed correctly. We will keep you updated on all developments!
