Capcom has announced that Dragon’s Dogma 2 has sold over 2.5 million units worldwide. The entire Dragon’s Dogma series now exceeds 10 million units sold, a remarkable achievement since its launch in 2012. The series is known for its immersive action gameplay in a fantastical world

Twelve years after the first installment, “Dragon’s Dogma 2” sets new standards in the genre. The open game world offers players freedom and a detailed fantasy experience. The special feature of the game are the AI-controlled “Pawn” companions, which autonomously support the players on their adventures.

Capcom has advertised worldwide to attract both series fans and new players. Before the game launched, there was a free app for creating avatars. In addition, there were collaborations with well-known personalities who enriched the game world

Community settles scores with Dragon’s Dogma 2

On Metacritic, Dragon’s Dogma 2 has received positive reviews from the specialist press, which basically speaks for the quality of the sequel. The earlier parts of the series have already been praised for their creative gameplay elements and the vibrant world, which has raised expectations for the latest installment

However, the community is taking a harder line with the fantasy RPG and is venting its anger primarily at the microtransactions within the game. Many community members are also frustrated by the auto-save feature in combination with only one available save state. We already reported on this last week.

After the review bombing, the community’s reviews of Dragon’s Dogma 2 also seem to be improving. Of the 50,463 reviews, just under 58% recommend the title. Although this is still modest for a Capcom title, it is still an improvement on last week’s result.

The future of the game

Capcom still wants to update Dragon’s Dogma 2 regularly to improve the gaming experience. The latest update was released yesterday, April 1st, and can be viewed on the game website. All patch notes will appear here in future.

In view of the current reviews, the huge sales figures for Dragon’s Dogma 2 can be explained primarily by the pre-orders. Only time will tell whether the title will be able to generate this revenue beyond the launch.
