Crytek surprisingly announces Crysis 4 with a blog post and a teaser. Here’s what we know so far

You know what the beauty of our job is? We have absolutely no idea in the morning what’s going to happen throughout the day. Just yesterday Blizzard surprised us with the announcement of a new survival game, today Crytek announces a new Crysis.

Yes, you read that right. About nine years after the release of Crysis 3, a new part of the shooter series is finally to come. The developers announced this in a (Blogpost) and also published a teaser for the new game. In addition to a devastated city and some effects, we also see the number 4 in the teaser, so it seems to be a genuine successor to the beloved Crysis series. However, there is no release date for Crysis 4 yet.

You can watch the trailer here:

By the way, the urban setting, which can be guessed at in the small glimpses of the trailer, is also exciting. We already know this from Crysis 2, which transported us to the New York of 2023. Of course, we don’t yet know whether we will be transported to New York again. We have captured everything else to discover in the trailer for you in a screenshot gallery:

Despite the presumably burgeoning euphoria, you should not rejoice too soon, because Crysis 4 is far from finished. In the blog entry the developers write:

Right now the game is still in early development so it will take a while, but we wanted to share the news with you at this time because we are so excited about the future and to let you know that we will listen to our community.

As development progresses, we’ll share more details as soon as we can. But in the meantime, know that our dedicated and talented team is working hard to bring you a true next-gen shooter.

Similar to its colleagues at Blizzard, Crytek is combining its game announcement with a job posting. The studio is looking for a lot of employees, especially for its Frankfurt location. Currently, many of the job applications still mention an unannounced AAA game. The assumption is that this is the new Crysis.

Besides the Crysis announcement, by the way, there is also a little happy news for all Hunt: Showdown fans among you, because the blog post talks about some great things planned for the multiplayer shooter in the future. But again, we don’t get any concrete info.

What do you think about the announcement? Are you looking forward to a new Crysis that will melt your graphics card? Let us know in the comments
