50 years after the movie, Hunter Schafer and Michelle Yeoh must hunt down an extremely dangerous renegade in a dystopian cyberpunk future.
During San Diego Comic-Con this weekend, Prime Video officially unveiled the series Blade Runner 2099. All eight episodes are set to be released simultaneously on November 25, 2026.
As the name suggests, the series is set 50 years after the second film, *Blade Runner 2049*, starring Ryan Gosling. It takes you back to Los Angeles, where the replicants have triumphed over humans following an uprising. Humans now live there only as second-class citizens.
Visual Style and Production Team
Hunter Schafer (Euphoria) stars as Cora. She plays a human fugitive who poses as a Blade Runner after having spent her entire life on the run from precisely these people. Along the way, she encounters Olwen, played by Michelle Yeoh. Olwen is a replicant Blade Runner with only a few days left to live. Together, the two hunt down a renegade replicant who could plunge the entire city into chaos.
The trailer exudes the familiar cyberpunk aesthetic that was defined by Ridley Scott’s original film. We see massive video displays on skyscrapers and flying cars. The cult director is on board as an executive producer for the series and is working closely with showrunner Silka Luisa.
Unlike the previous films, we also get to see a sunnier look here, although scenes set at night and in the rain are just as much a part of the mix as a neon-lit skyline.
The Blade Runner Timeline
The cyberpunk franchise began in 1982 with Ridley Scott’s masterpiece, set in the year 2019. Denis Villeneuve’s acclaimed sequel, “Blade Runner 2049,” further expanded this dark world. The new Amazon series now leaps another half-century into an even more dangerous future.

In addition to Michelle Yeoh and Hunter Schafer, Dimitri Abold (The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes) and Lewis Gribben (Somewhere Boy) are also part of the series’ regular cast. You can also look forward to recurring guest stars, including Katelyn Rose Downey (The Nun II), Daniel Rigby (Renegade Nell), Johnny Harris (A Gentleman in Moscow), Amy Lennox (Only Child), Sheila Atim (The Woman King), Matthew Needham (House of the Dragon), Tom Burke (Furiosa), and Maurizio Lombardi (Ripley).
Who is showrunner Silka Luisa?
While Ridley Scott oversees the project as a producer, Silka Luisa is in charge of creative direction. The writer most recently made a name for herself as the showrunner of the critically acclaimed Apple thriller series “Shining Girls” and is now shaping the legendary cyberpunk universe.
