The creators of the successful predecessor are presenting the first footage of the sequel just in time for gamescom. Here’s what you can expect from the upcoming single-player title.
In a new 15-minute video, Game Science showcases the first gameplay footage from the upcoming Black Myth: Zhong Kui.
The sequel was announced last year during gamescom Opening Night Live, and now, just before this year’s event kicks off, new footage has been released.
It’s a tradition for the studio to update its community on the latest projects every year on August 20. So this is the perfect occasion to showcase gameplay from Black Myth: Zhong Kui.
First Gameplay Glimpses and Chinese Folklore
“The trailer offers you a first look at the protagonist in combat and also gives a small taste of the story,” writes the studio. “Since the game is still in an early stage of development, all in-game scenes are taken from a work-in-progress build. This build ran in 21:9 format, so the final version may differ.”
It goes on to say: “As the name suggests, Black Myth: Zhong Kui is also deeply rooted in ancient Chinese mythology and folklore. You can also expect another true single-player action RPG. We’re using the exact same business model as in the previous title.”
“As you may have already noticed from the new gameplay footage, we want to retain many of the elements that our fans loved in the last title. At the same time, we’re eagerly experimenting with unique gameplay tailored perfectly to the new protagonist. On top of that, we’re leveraging cutting-edge technology and entirely new approaches to storytelling.”
Platforms and a Long Wait Until Release
Black Myth: Zhong Kui is in development for PC and “major consoles.” Further details regarding platforms and the release date are not yet available.
But be prepared for the fact that it will still take a while. The developers write: “First and foremost, the game has to be good enough to impress even our most experienced and seasoned colleagues at the studio. And yes, that alone guarantees that the whole process won’t happen quickly.”
