The next billion-dollar deal is coming up in the gaming world. Sony takes over Bungie and thus also Destiny 2. What happens now with the shooter?

The next big business bomb has burst in the gaming sector. The Sony conglomerate confirmed on Monday that it was buying out game developer Bungie. The Destiny 2 studio, which also formerly produced the Xbox hit Halo, is officially joining the PlayStation faction. Such a mega-deal could bring some changes – also in relation to the competitor Microsoft. What does this mean for Destiny 2 in particular?

The takeover deal between Sony and Bungie was sealed for 3.6 billion US dollars. Already since the release of Destiny, the two companies have had a close cooperation, which will be strengthened even more due to the deal. However, Destiny 2 can also be found on Xbox, Google Stadia and Steam and even allows crossplay. According to the development team, this will not change in the future.

On the (official website), Bungie assures that the acquisition of Sony should have no impact on the game experience, no matter which platform is played on. The studio will retain full creative independence with the games and the community. The upcoming expansion The Witch Queen will also continue to be available on every platform. There would also be no changes to plans for the Light and Darkness saga and The Final Shape in 2024.

However, players:inside might notice a change in Destiny 2. Due to the deal with Sony, the studio is able to hire new staff. The staff will be expanded in any parts of the game and also for worlds that will come after. This means that the players can hope for a lot of new content in Destiny 2 and finally aim for another big expansion in the style of Forsaken.

With the takeover of Bungie, Sony wants to focus more on MMOs and design new games. Moreover, with the billion-dollar deal, the company is now trailing rival Microsoft. The company has bought Activision Blizzard in the biggest deal in the gaming world so far.
