The Battlefield 2042 open beta starts in September. We provide you with all the info on the start, registration and what else you should know.

Battlefield 2042 will be released on 22 October 2021, but in the course of an open beta in September you will have the chance to play the new DICE shooter before the release. But when exactly will the beta start and how can you participate? We summarise all the latest information!

Caution: Wrong dates are circulating!

There are currently reports piling up on the net that the beta will start on 6 September. This information is wrong. The source has corrected their information in the meantime and revealed the error, but the date can still be read in many places. There is still no official date on the part of EA, so such a short-notice beta start would have been extremely improbable.

What does EA say?

The official Twitter account of Battlefield posted a meme on 1 September alluding to the long wait and the impatience of fans. Apparently, it remains a September date – but they point out with a wink that September has 30 days as we all know.

Andy McNamara, EA’s head of communications for shooters, is at least a little more precise. They are working very hard to deliver a great experience and plan to provide more info in September:

What do insiders say?

Industry insider and well-known leaker Tom Henderson predicts the beta launch for 22 September. He refers to still secret invitations from EA to influencers and press for a play session with Battlefield 2042 shortly before the beta.

According to Henderson, Early Access for pre-orderers and EA Play subscribers is set to launch on 22 September, with the beta then open to all from 24 September. Henderson backs up his claims with screenshots of secret chat messages from his sources.

A further indication is provided by the stores: because in the PlayStation Shop as well as in Steam and in the Microsoft Store, preparations are apparently being made for the imminent launch of the open beta.

How credible is this? The date seems quite realistic, there would be enough time for the obligatory press event under NDA as well as a marketing phase with beta trailer and the preload. Henderson has mostly been right with his predictions so far and has a proven track record of getting info from developer circles.

The old beta dates

EA had originally mentioned specific beta dates in an official blog post. However, the post was later deleted and no further official comment was made.

It is now clear that these dates are no longer current and the beta has been postponed accordingly. We list the outdated dates here:

Beta launch (outdated)

Early Access from 4 September at 10am German time

Access for all players from 6 September at 10am German time

Pre-orderers will therefore get two full days head start, but from 6 September anyone interested can then move up. You don’t have to have bought Battlefield 2042 to try out the open beta.

Beta end (deprecated)

The Battlefield 2042 beta will end at around 4pm on 16 September 2021. We don’t know yet if you’ll get any in-game benefits in the final release if you participated in the beta.

Beta preload (deprecated)

In order for you to participate in the Battlefield 2042 beta on time, developer DICE is offering you a preload. The preload should be available from the following date, provided EA doesn’t throw these plans out again:

– Preload from 3 September 2021 at 10am German time

Registration: How do I take part in the beta

To participate in the Battlefield 2042 open beta, you have two options:

– Early-Access: To have earlier access to the beta, you have to pre-order Battlefield 2042. Then the client will be unlocked earlier for you.

– Open Access: Here every player can participate without a key. Just look for the client via Steam or Origin as soon as the runway is free.

.

When will Battlefield 2042 be released anyway?

The release of Battlefield 2042 is scheduled for 22 October 2021. So the beta will take place over a month before that. The developers don’t have time for major changes, but at least it should be possible to take balancing feedback from the beta into the final game.
