Ayaneo has unveiled the Konkr Pocket Block as the “world’s first AI gaming handheld”—without explaining what the AI actually does. The community isn’t letting this go uncommented.
Ayaneo has announced the Konkr Pocket Block—a vertical Android handheld under the company’s Konkr sub-brand. What makes it “special”: Ayaneo calls the device the “world’s first AI gaming handheld.” However, the company did not explain what the AI actually does in its May 25 announcement.
According to Ayaneo, the device is intended to combine retro aesthetics with a cyber-inspired design and be based on “AI-powered concepts and features.” Further details are to follow at a later date; the announcement is completely silent on technical specifications.
What the community is saying
The reactions to Ayaneo’s X post fell less into the “product feedback” category—and certainly, certainly not hype—and read more like a collective eye-roll.
Aside from the general curses directed at anything related to AI: The fact that Ayaneo simply says “AI” but doesn’t explain in a single word what exactly is supposed to be intelligent about the Kronk handheld is particularly infuriating in this case.
- “Why even say it uses AI without explaining it?” asked, for example, “KCsaurus” – and listed possibilities such as real-time translation or a save file editor.
- »PricklyPie« compares the announcement to that of a »toaster with wheels screwed underneath. Maybe you’ve come up with something interesting here—but shouldn’t you elaborate on that?
- But no matter what it actually turns out to be at the end of the day: “RetroBreeze” has published a list of users who want AI in their game console.

Konkr Pocket Block: What We Know So Far
The device is an Android handheld in a vertical format—inspired, according to Ayaneo, by classic vertical handhelds. The design combines retro elements with a “cyber look for the AI era,” according to the company. Which processor will be used has not yet been disclosed.
Interestingly, Ayaneo already has Windows handhelds in its portfolio with the AI-capable Ryzen AI Max+ 395 in the form of the Next 2. Here, the NPU—the Neural Processing Unit responsible for AI calculations—is integrated directly into the hardware.
For a handheld as small as the Konkr Pocket Block, this seems unlikely, so until further details are announced, we’ll leave the most frequently asked question from the presentation to stand on its own: AI for what?
