Atlético Madrid is using GTA humor to raise a laugh before its Champions League clash with Real Madrid.

The Champions League is back, Atlético Madrid will face Real Madrid in the round of 16, and it looks like Atléti are already well prepared for the showdown with their city rivals – with a good sense of humor. On their official social media channels, the Rojiblancos posted a meme that perfectly describes what many fans thought when they looked at the draw: an image from GTA: San Andreas, or more precisely the iconic scene in which protagonist CJ accepts a seemingly endless series of problems with the legendary words Ah sh**, here we go again.

If you’re not that into international football: Atlético Madrid and the premier class – a story full of drama, pain and narrowly missed triumphs.

In particular, there have been bitter setbacks against Real Madrid: losing the 2014 and 2016 Champions League finals to their city rivals is one of the most bitter moments in the club’s history. It’s no wonder, then, that Atlético take this encounter with gallows humor.

But there is hope: In recent years, Atléti have often come out on top against Real in direct duels. This season, they have already won two of their three previous matches against the royal family – including a spectacular 4-2 win in the cup. Perhaps the meme is not so much an expression of despair as an ironic challenge to the all-powerful city rivals.

Whether Atlético will finally make history after these derbies or whether it will be Ah sh**, here we go again – that will be seen on the pitch.

On the German side, by the way, Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen are still in the running. Bayern will face Leverkusen in the round of 16, while crisis-ridden Dortmund will face LOSC Lille from France.

The first legs are scheduled for March 4 and 5, 2025, with the second legs to follow on March 11 and 12, 2025. The exact kick-off times will be announced by UEFA.
