Actor Michael Mando has big plans for Vaas Montenegro. Fans of Far Cry could soon see the villain again in cinema or a TV series.

Vaas from Far Cry 3 could become the hero of his own movie or TV series. At least if actor Michael Mando actually puts his ambitious plans into action – as he personally reveals to us in an interview. And no, Uwe Boll is not involved.

Michael Mando wants to make Vaas into a film

This is what Michael Mando has in mind: The Vaas actor wants to bring back his iconic Far Cry villain in a big way. For him, a film, a TV series or even a standalone game would be possible. You can read what Mando has to say about this in the following quote:

I think we have only scratched the surface of this character so far. I contributed to the development and writing of [Vaas] myself and now I have an idea. I have an idea for an exciting film. I would have already talked to Greg Russo, who wrote Mortal Kombat, and the writers of Better Call Saul for that. There is definitely interest in really developing this character and giving him a film with due depth […] – or a TV series or a standalone game. […]

[Vaas] went viral at the time without anyone expecting it. I still get drawings and tattoos [of Vaas] sent to me by fans. He became an iconic character that really organically came into being and evolved. [Video game characters] often don’t translate well into a live-action adaptation, but in this case we’ve managed to break down the boundaries [of both genres]. In my opinion, we owe it to [Vaas] and the fans to explore him in a deep way – especially now, while films like Joker […] are coming out or anti-heroes like Deadpool are getting their own standalone projects.

Nothing is set yet: But don’t rejoice too soon, currently nothing is set in stone regarding a film or a TV series about Vaas. A real production has not started at the moment and until Michael Mando is in front of the camera again as Vaas, it would still be a long way.

Due to the character’s continuing popularity, however, it would not be at all surprising if Ubisoft capitalised on Mando’s ambitions in this way. Michael Mando is also likely to be selectively beating the advertising drum for a potential film or TV series in order to secure the support of his fans.

A film adaptation of sorts already exists
: Michael Mando has not only lent his voice to Vaas so far, but has already been in front of the camera for the so-called Far Cry Experience – which he also mentions in our interview as an example of how a Vaas film could work.

The miniseries, which was released in 2012 and also features Christopher Mintz-Plasse (Superbad, Kick-Ass), is only about 30 minutes long. You can currently watch all the episodes on YouTube:

Vaas has already returned for Far Cry 6
Michael Mando has already stepped into the role of Vaas one more time for Far Cry 6: Vaas: Madness, the first DLC of the Season Pass, will be released on 16 November 2021, in which players take on the role of the mohawk-wearing pirate himself.

In the DLC itself, we dive deep into the psyche of Vaas and fight our way through numerous hordes of enemies in Roguelite style, starting all over again upon screen death. The two following DLCs of the paid Season Pass then bring back the villains Pagan Min (Far Cry 4) and Joseph Seed (Far Cry 5) after Vaas.

Spoiler warning! If you have played through the main story of Far Cry 6, then you should already know the surprise after the end credits. Here we don’t see Vaas, but we hear him talking to Juan. It becomes clear: Vaas has obviously survived the events of Far Cry 3 and has now arrived on Yara.

What exactly the post-credits scene of Far Cry 6 and the return of Vaas Montenegro is all about, you can read in the following article:

The end of Far Cry 6 explained: Secret scene fulfils big fan wish

What would you like to see for Vaas: a film, a TV series or a game of its own? Or have you had enough of the titular villain from Far Cry 3 by now? Let us know in the comments!
