Valve has apparently blocked access to the CS2 beta. However, this is not to indicate an imminent release, but have banal reasons

On Reddit, messages are piling up from users complaining that their access to the Counter-Strike 2 beta is no longer working. Does the end of the beta mean an imminent release of the full version of CS2?

Release sooner than expected?

Since the beginning of the Beta of CS2 on March 22 Valve has been silent about the actual duration of the testing phase. As it seems now, since May 3, we have an answer to this question.

As several users agree on (Reddit) report, it seems that the beta of CS2 has ended.

The release date of the CS:GO successor was, as usual with Valve, relatively spongy and vaguely stated as summer 2023. Depending on whether you assume the meteorological or calendrical start of summer, that means the release would take place sometime between June 1 and August 31, or June 21 and September 21, respectively.

While many within the CS community do not expect a release until August, the end of the beta may now point to a slightly earlier release after all.

Long waits, but no soon release after all?

Since mid-April, Counter-Strike 2 has been experiencing long wait times in matchmaking, indicating that the number of beta participants has been reduced and some users have been excluded.

While much of the community is hoping for a CS2 release soon, however, there may be a simple explanation for the lockouts. As user Poggu explains in a Twitter post, the problems could be related to a CS:GO update.

Global Offensive is currently running on version 1.38.6.9, CS2 on 1.38.7.0, so Poggu suspects that the next CS:GO update 7.0 will clash with the current CS2 version. This could also force Counter-Strike 2 players to install the update, leading to the current login issues.

Whether it”s actually due to the update confusion, however, remains open for now. Since the surprising release of the Anubis collection on April 25 on Valve”s Twitter account, it has become suspiciously quiet.

So far, there has been no comment from the responsible parties on the current events, and those who know a bit about Valve won”t expect any clarification in the next few days.

As is often the case, we can only wait and hope that the release will actually take place in June and not in August or even September.
