“The worst campaign I’ve ever played” – CoD Black Ops 7 is currently rubbing fans up the wrong way

Giant plants and zombies as enemies, no option to pause the solo campaign: for many fans, BO7 is a complete disappointment.

The Call of Duty community isn’t exactly known for its refined restraint when it comes to expressing its displeasure. However, complaints as loud as the current ones are rarely seen here. The trigger is the release of Black Ops 7, or more precisely, its story campaign.

It ventures into some, shall we say, wild experiments. And these are not going down well with the majority of fans and CoD influencers.

What are people upset about?

Several major points of criticism are causing discontent and, in some cases, complete incomprehension.

No pause option: Although you can play through the campaign alone and co-op is only optional, the game cannot be paused. Need a bathroom break? No chance. If you are inactive for too long, you will be kicked out and have to start the entire mission over again – which brings us to the next point.

No save points: In our extensive campaign test, we didn’t encounter a single save point within a mission. If you fail or have to stop in the middle due to time constraints, you’ll have to start over from the beginning.

No AI companions: If you play alone, the game does not provide you with any computer-controlled helpers to balance things out. In co-op mode, it’s much easier to shoot zombies, giants, and monster plants. Wait, what?

The setting: Anyone hoping for a futuristic spy thriller will be disappointed. And everyone else will be confused, at the very least. Because the story is crazier than ever before. As you sniff a fictional gas used by the villain, you hallucinate enemies such as zombie hordes or a giant carnivorous plant. No joke, in places it looks more like Destiny or God of War than CoD:

We’ve collected a few quotes from well-known names in the CoD universe.

Definitely one of the worst, if not the worst CoD campaign I’ve ever played in my life. I give it a 3/10, I really think it’s worse than MW3 and much worse than BO3. […] This campaign is seriously pure comedy.

And, of course, many fans are expressing their opinions in memes. Like this one – you can see the villain of the new story in it.

On Steam, Black Ops 7 currently has a shocking 51 percent positive user ratings. So far, only around 250 reviews have been recorded – it’s only been a few hours since release – and most criticize the bizarre design decisions of the campaign mentioned above.

Given the setting and co-op focus of the campaign, many are reminded of Call of Duty Zombies, only that wasn’t known beforehand. Black Ops used to stand for grounded, complex stories. Those days are probably over – now it’s time to test what the multiplayer can still pull off. We’ll let you know as soon as possible.
