The developers of Battlefield 6 are listening “loud and clear” to the biggest criticism from fans, but are asking for patience.

Battlefield 6 has just started its second season and has been well received by fans so far. However, the developers are unable to refute the biggest criticism.

Five months after its release, things could be looking better for Battlefield 6: Steam reviews are mixed, player numbers could be higher, and the first season was met with a lukewarm reception.

At least the initial reactions to Season 2 have been more positive since its release. However, fans still have one major criticism: there are simply too few maps. Now, Dice developers are also responding to fans’ concerns.

We’re glad you want more

Players would have liked to see more new maps in Season 1. As is now the case in Season 2, two maps were released over a period of three months. Compared to the map packs in previous Battlefield titles, which delivered four or five maps at once, this is of course very little.

In an interview with The Gamer, developer Phil Girette now responds to fans’ calls for more maps, but not everyone will like his answer:

We see this feedback and hear it loud and clear. And we’re really happy that people just want more of the things we can deliver. […]

We’re already testing Golmud Railway in Labs, so that’s a step in the right direction. And then, of course, more maps are something we’ll be looking at more closely. But maps are also one of the most time-consuming things we build. We’ll need a little more time.

However, there will be no changes to the schedule and structure of the new seasons: the goal remains three phases spread over three months. Girette does not want to confirm whether three maps will still be delivered in the future. Developer  Alexia Christofi to Gamespot:

In terms of frequency, we would love to make more maps. We strive to deliver things to players as quickly as possible.

So whether future seasons of Battlefield 6 will be bigger is more than questionable. Apparently, it’s simply not possible for the developers to create new maps any faster. At least we can look forward to the occasional map remake.

Operation Firestorm has been in the game since release, while Golmud Railway is set to be released at an as yet unknown date.
