Has DICE found the crossplay solution that could satisfy everyone? It seems they are very close with Battlefield 6.

In Battlefield 2042, crossplay was enabled by default, which could lead to a difficult balance in matches and was not very well received by the community. The option to disable it was buried somewhere in the options. Battlefield 6 is taking a different approach, trying to retain the benefits of shared matchmaking between PCs and consoles.

Crossplay with prioritization

Battlefield producer Alexia Christoffi explains in an X post what options are available for crossplay in the new installment of the series. Basically, you can simply enable or disable crossplay.
However, if you enable cross-platform matchmaking, there is a special feature.

Battlefield 6 will feature the choices of full crossplay, console only crossplay or console platform specific (PS5 match makes with PS5 for example) crossplay

If you have crossplay enabled, the system will first try to find a lobby with console players or create a new one with only such players.

However, if this takes too long or affects your connection quality, matchmaking will also fall back on players from other platforms.

In Battlefield 6, crossplay means that the game first searches for a match with players from your own platform and only then expands the search to other players. This system ensures fast matchmaking and fair games at the same time.

Is there SBMM in Battlefield 6?

The short answer is yes. However, DICE has already stated that skill plays a relatively minor role in matchmaking and that connection quality is more important when searching for games.

The various factors are ping, player location, server capacity, and individual skill, and are weighted differently depending on the game mode and number of players.

Battlefield 6 launched its open beta just a few moments ago, allowing players with an early access code to take to the battlefield. But on Friday, everyone will be able to get started – don’t worry, there will also be a second beta weekend.
