Almost two years after its release, Battlefield 2042 is doing much better. This is also reflected in the ratings on Steam.

At release it seemed almost impossible, but Battlefield 2042 has actually become a significantly better game in the past year and a half. After the disastrous release, bugs were first fixed, then new content was delivered and missing features were brought back. The fact that fans now also perceive the shooter differently is also evident on Steam.

Get out of the red

Fans’ anger over the disappointing Battlefield 2042 vented itself in scathing Steam reviews after release. At times, the multiplayer shooter was among the worst-rated games on Steam, with 75 percent of thumbs pointing down.

But after a total of five seasons, the game has finally passed a critical point. From the red marked Mostly negative the reviews slipped to Balanced Currently 40 percent of Steam reviews are positive, while reviews written in the last 30 days give as much as 60 percent a thumbs up.

Of course, these are still not dream numbers for one of the biggest shooter brands, but at least there is a clear improvement.

What has changed?

In view of the partly fundamental changes, it is of course not far-fetched that the shooter is now judged differently. For us, too, the game has now reached a point where we can finally call it a good Battlefield:

But what is actually all new in the meantime? The following changes are probably among the heaviest:

  • Map reworks: Meanwhile, all of the original maps that were heavily criticized have been thoroughly reworked, providing more cover for infantry and feeling more like a battlefield. This has sometimes worked better, sometimes worse, but makes a clear difference.
  • Five Seasons: With the seasonal updates came five new maps in particular, as well as four new specialists and a bunch of new weapons, providing much more variety.
  • Feature returns: Features that were missed at launch have been added piece by piece. By now there is a scoreboard, (somewhat more limited) classes, squad management options and much more.

But Battlefield 2042 is not quite at the end yet. There will be at least a sixth season, but its contents are still unknown. Whether the shooter will be able to improve its position with the fans remains to be seen.

What do you think of Battlefield 2042 in the meantime? Do you think the shooter is in an acceptable state now, and have you started playing again? Have you been having fun with the new specialists for a while now? Or have you turned your back on the game for good and are playing something else? Feel free to post it in the comments!
