The patch introduces new endgame resources such as mithril, a storage system in Hræfnathorp, and a connection to the Animus Hub, including the Naoe outfit.
The recently announced new update for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is now available for download.
You can download it on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and PC, and then dive into New Game Plus mode, among other features.
A Fresh Start in Hamtunscire: How New Game Plus, Mithril, and Divine Gear Work
This mode lets you relive the entire adventure in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla while carrying over your current save data. New Game Plus is unlocked after completing the “Holiday” quest, the final mission in the Hamtunscire region. With each subsequent playthrough, the difficulty increases based on your progress, so new challenges await even on repeated journeys back to the Viking Age.
If you find equipment you’ve already obtained or interact with a Book of Knowledge you’ve already uncovered, you’ll receive Mithril instead. This new resource opens up new ways to further upgrade your gear, even in the endgame. Mithril can also be purchased in Niflheim as well as in Mastery or River Raid shops.
New resources and upgrade options are also being introduced that were previously available exclusively in the “Signs of Ragnarök” expansion. When looting treasure chests that previously contained coal, cupronickel, or tungsten ingots, you’ll now find platinum ingots instead. Equipment can be upgraded to the “Divine” quality tier and then enhanced up to level 27—you’ll need Mithril to do so.
More Power and More Storage Space: New Progression Mode, the Stash System, and Revamped Runes
In addition, an extra, optional progression mode awaits you, offering new possibilities for character development. Equipment, runes, and masteries all contribute to your total Power stat. At the same time, challenges become more demanding, and rewards are adjusted accordingly.
“To make managing equipment easier, the update also introduces the new Stash system. In Hræfnathorp, an additional storage location is available where any gear and runes from your inventory can be stored,” the announcement states. “The Rune Forge has also been revamped. Runes can now be upgraded for silver via a dedicated menu section. Additionally, a new quality tier called ‘Superior’ is available, which can only be achieved through upgrades. These particularly powerful runes require the new resource, mithril, instead of silver.”
Over 300 additional runes with engraving options provide greater customization. This means that all benefits added since the game’s release can now be engraved as well.
Animus Hub and PS5 Pro Upgrade: Free Naoe Outfit, PSSR, and 60 fps in Quality Mode
At the same time, Ubisoft is integrating the game into the Animus Hub’s synchronization feature with this update. There are also two new achievements, three additional utility packs, and three premium character packs, as well as the Master Assassin Naoe outfit as a free unlockable bonus.
Finally, Valhalla on the PS5 Pro benefits from technical enhancements: “Thanks to the new PSSR, the game offers sharper 4K image quality and improved detail rendering,” writes Ubisoft. “Quality Mode is now enabled by default and runs at 60 fps, enabling a smoother gaming experience. Additionally, a power-saving mode running at 30 fps is now available on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro.”
