To celebrate the roguelike’s sixth anniversary, the Game Music Festival brings you a spectacular live performance from London featuring an orchestra and the original cast.

The Game Music Festival and Supergiant Games have released the free concert film “Ballads of the Underworld.” It celebrates the music from Hades and Hades 2; you can watch it in the embedded video below.

At the same time, this marks the sixth anniversary of Hades. The performance took place at London’s Royal Festival Hall, where arrangements written specifically for the Game Music Festival were performed, among other pieces.

Original Cast and Orchestra: Austin Wintory Conducts the Sounds of the Underworld

“On stage are the original singers Darren Korb and Ashley Barrett, along with Judy Alice Lee, Erin Yvette, and Colin Ryan,” the announcement states. “They are accompanied musically by the London Mozart Players under the baton of Grammy-nominated and BAFTA-winning conductor Austin Wintory. Together, they breathe new life into the soulful laments, hymns, and chants that accompany Zagreus and Melinoë on their perilous journeys.”

“The music of Hades has an extremely strong identity and an incredibly loyal fan base,” explains Mateusz Pawlak, founder of the Game Music Festival. “We’re thrilled to bring this performance to life beyond the concert hall and make it accessible to everyone. It was an incredible privilege to collaborate with such a fantastic group of singers, musicians, and creatives and to capture this performance for fans around the world.”

After the Diablo Anniversary: The Game Music Festival Brings Soundtracks to the Big Stage

This is already the second major collaboration this year to be released as a recording. In June, the GMF, in partnership with Blizzard Entertainment, put on “The Infernal Symphony”—the concert celebrating the 30th anniversary of Diablo. You can find the official soundtrack on all major streaming platforms.

“A concert is just one of many ways to connect people with video game music,” Pawlak continues. “The most exciting projects emerge when the music becomes the starting point for something bigger—a live performance, a film, an album, a conversation, or an entirely new kind of experience for the audience. Our job is to find the right format for the music and the people behind it.”
