Digital Foundry has put Remedy’s new open-world game under the microscope. While standard consoles fall short, Sony’s flagship shines.
Control Resonant is set to launch soon, and following the first reviews, the game’s technical aspects are also being examined in greater detail.
Digital Foundry has published its analysis, taking a closer look at the technical highlights of the action-adventure game.
PS5 Pro at the Top: Ray Tracing and Resolution in Detail
Unsurprisingly, the PlayStation 5 Pro proves to be the best console platform, thanks in particular to its hardware-accelerated ray tracing, which is used in both Quality and Balanced modes.
Quality mode runs at around 1224p at 30 fps, while the Balanced option renders internally at 1080p and aims for 40 fps.
Xbox Series X/S Review: The Limits of the Base Hardware
Among Microsoft’s consoles, the Xbox Series X is on par with the PlayStation 5. Remedy uses the exact same resolution mix of 864p and 1260p for the respective Performance and Quality modes. On the Xbox Series S, however, you’ll have to make do with a single display option. This option adopts the graphics settings and 864p resolution of the Series X’s Performance mode, targeting 30 fps.
All in all, however, according to technical experts, all consoles except the PS5 Pro have a few visual issues.
“Ultimately, Control Resonant showcases both the flexibility and the limitations of Remedy’s Northlight engine as it makes the leap to an open-world game,” they say. “Even though the base consoles struggle with image sharpness and limited view distance, the overall graphical presentation remains captivating. However, if you’re looking for the absolute best console experience, the PlayStation 5 Pro stands out as the undisputed leader. The high-end console makes excellent use of advanced upscaling and ray tracing to showcase the game’s high-end graphical features to their fullest potential.”
