At BlizzCon 2026, Blizzard announced the first StarCraft game since 2010.

The numerous rumors surrounding StarCraft have been confirmed. The legendary RTS franchise is indeed getting its first new installment since 2010, but this time it will be an open-world shooter. It’s also interesting to note who is responsible for the games: Far Cry director Dan Hay.

StarCraft in New Realms

The new game has the working title StarCraft and will be a sci-fi open-world shooter. There’s hardly any information about the game’s content yet—just an intense, roughly three-minute-long cinematic trailer. But it’s best to see for yourself:

When will the game be released? The release of StarCraft is still a long way off and is currently scheduled for 2030. It’s not yet known which platforms will be supported.

What are the rumors saying? StarCraft is reportedly set to be a third-person story-driven shooter, not a service-based shooter with MMO elements like Destiny 2. However, this has not been confirmed yet. The only thing that’s been confirmed is that it will be an open-world shooter.

Who is Dan Hay? The head of StarCraft will be Canadian developer Dan Hay, who joined Blizzard in 2022. Previously, he worked at Ubisoft Montreal, where he held leadership roles in the development of the Far Cry series from Part 3 (2012) through Part 6 (2021), as well as all related spin-offs. It remains to be seen to what extent this will impact the gameplay and story of StarCraft.
