A major expansion for Crimson Desert, titled *Crimson Desert: Charting the Unknown*, has just been announced, introducing a new area and numerous new mechanics.

The developers ofCrimson Deserthad just unveiled and immediately released their major Enhanced Update at gamescom 2026, and now they’re already moving forward. During the State of Play, the expansion Charting the Unknown was announced, and it’s set to arrive very soon: StartingOctober 15, 2026, we’ll be able to explore—alongside Kliffa hidden land beyond the Crimson Desert

Castle Building, Sailing Ships, Diving, and More

Crimson Desert already featured countless mechanics at launch, but the expansion is going to make things even wilder. The trailer already shows off some new mechanics:

  • We build a gigantic castle, divide it into rooms, and fully furnish it just like Kliff’s house. We also rent out buildings and can earn money from them.

  • We’ll steer a large sailing shipand set sail for previously unknown islands. There are also cannons on board that we can fire, so maybe there will even be naval battles.

  • Kliff now goes on dives wearing a special suit.Underwater, he uses a kind of jetpack and, in one scene, even gets carried away by a shark. In the ocean, we discover treasures and sunken ruins.

  • Apparently, we’ll start romances with NPCs. In the trailer, for example, we see Kliff kneeling in front of a woman with a bouquet of flowers in his hand.

  • Of course, there are alsoplenty of new bosses; in the trailer, for example, we see a gigantic machine that fires laser beams and a sort of mechanical shark (?). The developers promise thetoughest battles yet.

  • Our NPC friends can apparently cook for us now—at least that’s what the trailer suggests.

The trailer also reveals a few other details: It appears that “Charting the Unknown” takes place after the main story, as we see a significantly aged Cliff. Additionally, existing content will likely be improved:

  • We see quests that focus on our alternate charactersDamiane and Oongka. They were practically nonexistent in the main game.

  • Apparently, there’s alsonew content in the Crimson Desertto discover. Although the desert gives the open-world game its name, it played hardly any role in the main story.

If you’re having trouble keeping up with all the news about the Crimson Desert, you’re certainly not alone. That’s why we’ve summarized the new features of the major 2.0 update for you in the box above. Among other things, it includes a German voiceover, improvements to the skill system, and even a kind of New Game Plus. The biggest improvements, however, are to the story, with new cutscenes and a more talkative Cliff.
