Anyone who was hoping to play the next big RPG in The Witcher series in the near future will have to be patient:It will still be two years until release.

Timeline for The Witcher 4: Release in 2028

CD Projekt Red Co-CEO Michał Nowakowski addressed the matter ona video messagedirectly to fans and outlined a timeframe for the release of The Witcher 4. For the team, it’s clear that quality and preparation time come first.

The key takeaway from the message is that CD Projekt Red is targeting arelease window in 2028for The Witcher 4.

Management refers to a target timeframe and avoids giving a specific date or even mentioning a release month or quarter.

The reason for this:According to the studio, it has learned from the multiple delays of The Witcher 3 and the launch issues with Cyberpunk 2077. Setting a release date too early puts development teams under enormous pressure and often leads to unfinished products. The motto is: The development team should be given the time needed to ensure the final product meets the extremely high expectations.

More Than 500 Developers

According to CD Projekt Red, The Witcher 4represents a whole new scalefor the studio. CEO Nowakowski speaks of more than 500 developers. It is described as the “largest, boldest, and most ambitious game in the company’s history to date.”

The Witcher 4 is also the first project for which CD Projekt Red is using Epic Games’ Unreal Engine 5. Previously, the Polish studio had relied on its in-house Red Engine for years.
