It’s been known for quite some time that the Assassin’s Creed TV series is set in ancient Rome. Now, the first images from the set have surfaced, allowing fans to immediately glean more about the setting.
Assassin’s Creed is one of Ubisoft’s most important flagship franchises. The historical action-adventure series has already spawned more than 16 installments—and one not-so-successful movie. However, that movie’s fate isn’t stopping Ubisoft from teaming up with streaming service Netflix to try again with a live-action adaptation of its Assassin’s Creed franchise.
Plans for a TV series adaptation of Assassin’s Creed have been in the works since 2020; this spring, the first details about the cast and the start of filming were announced. According to these details, the series is set in ancient Rome during the reign of Emperor Nero—more specifically, between 54 and 68 AD—and thus about 1,400 years before *AC Brotherhood*.
Specific details about the story aren’t available yet; but Nero was infamous and is blamed, among other things, for the Great Fire of Rome in 64 AD. So we can probably expect plenty of betrayal, corruption, and intrigue during his reign—the perfect breeding ground for conflict between two ancient secret societies.

Filming has been underway in Italy since the beginning of the year. And now, the first images from this shoot have surfaced. A production staff member apparently carelessly uploaded them to the short-form video platform TikTok. The Assassin’s logo is clearly visible in one of the videos. The room shown in the clip appears to be some sort of council chamber.

Well-known AC expert Access The Animus wrote on Twitter that it could be the Council Chamber of the Assassin Order during the time of ancient Rome. The expert also notes that, based on the facts known so far, the series will likely be set in the Egyptian spin-offAssassin’s Creed Origins.
What facts do we know?
The foundation of the Assassin Order was laid in Egypt in 47 B.C.; the series, with its focus on the era of Emperor Nero, is set about 100 years later. The Assassin Order—or the Hidden Ones,was already an established secret society at that time.
In Assassin’s Creed 2, for example, the Roman Assassin Leonius is already mentioned—he is said to have eliminated the mentally deranged Emperor Caligula. However, the council chamber in the video looks anything but inviting—more like a ruin. Is Emperor Nero responsible for this?

When will the Assassin’s Creed series be released?Neither Netflix nor Ubisoft officials have announced an exact release date yet; however, the person who uploaded the TikTok videos assumes the series will premiere in 2027. This aligns with previous estimates regarding production time.
It’s still unclear whether a new Assassin’s Creed game will also be released in 2027. According to estimates, the next installment in the series, codenamed “Hexe,” could also be released next year; it’s said to be set in early modern Germany during the era of the witch hunts.
