The well-known WoW pro Doubleagent had also reached the max level with his Pandaren monk during the WoW Shadowlands era without defeating a single enemy.
Anyone who wants to reach the max level inWorld of Warcraftusually does so by questing through dozens of zones, mowing down countless enemies, or playing theDiablo 3-inspired adventure modeThreads of Fate.
However, in 2020, one particularly patient and peaceful player went his own way: The pacifist WoW player Doubleagent had reached the maximum level just under three weeks after the release of the then-new expansionShadowlandsbysimply gathering herbs and mining ore.
Reaching Level 60 Without Fighting
The Peaceful Pandaren Monk Is No Stranger: Years earlier, Doubleagent had already defied the obligatory use of violence in Blizzard’s MMO. We first reported on him in 2018, when he reached the then-maximum level of 120 in the Battle for Azeroth expansion after 77 days.
Imitators quickly followed suit; in 2021, another player managed to reach level 50without ever leaving the starting zone.
Doubleagent also never left the Pandaren starting zone, the Wandering Isle, during his pacifist run in 2020—because doing so would have required him to join one of the two warring factions, the Alliance or the Horde. With his chosen name, that’s obviously not an option.
However, the resources on the Wandering Isle only grant a measly amount of experience points, so the extremely laid-back player had to spend a total of18 days running in circles, picking flowers, and tapping on ore nuggets.

According to his own statements, it took himover 8,000 hours and millions of harvested crafting materials to go from Level 1 to 110 duringWoW: Legion, and with Battle for Azeroth, another 77 days of playtime and an unknown number of hours were added.
He didn’t disclose exactly how many hours it took him—but thanks to the level squish that occurred before Shadowlands and the reduced XP requirements, he was significantly faster than in the last expansion.
We’re curious to see whether Doubleagent will start another pacifist run just in time for the upcoming release of the new expansion, Midnight, or whether he’ll instead take up arms and give the unfriendly folks around him a good thrashing.
Would you have the patience and resilience to try such an unusual approach to role-playing games? Or have you even done something similar before? Feel free to let us know in the comments!
