The ending of *Cyberpunk: Edgerunners* brought tears to the eyes of many fans. In the role-playing game *Wuthering Waves*, David and Lucy finally get their well-deserved reunion.
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is considered a prime example of a successful TV adaptation of a video game. Upon its release in 2022, the anime series won numerous awards and thrilled fans worldwide with its brilliantly told but tragic story centered on young David Martinez, who wants to make it big in Night City.
But of course, things turn out quite differently. At the end of Edgerunners, David and his crew don’t ride off into the sunset together. Instead—spoiler alert!—David sacrifices his life during an attack on Arasaka Tower to free his girlfriend Lucy and enable her to travel to the moon.
The series’ melancholic ending brought tears to many fans’ eyes back then. Because in the end, Lucy sits alone on the moon without David and has to come to terms with the fact that the person she loved most sacrificed his life for her—a happy ending certainly looks different.
Thanks to a collaboration with the free-to-play gacha RPG Wishing Waves from developer Kuro Games, David and Lucy are now getting a small happy ending of sorts after all—and it’s evenpart of the official Cyberpunk canon.

the Edgerunners characters Lucy and Rebecca have been available as playable characters in Wuthering Waves since June 8. The update also includes several scenes that Edgerunners fans have been eagerly hoping for since the series finale.
Following a disturbance in the Somnoire—a dream realm connected to the worlds of Solaris-3 (the game world of Wuthering Waves)—the player character Rover encounters Lucy, who is beinghaunted by nightmares of the events in Night City The centerpiece of the crossover is the Reunion ending, in which Lucy encounters her old friends David and Rebecca after a battle with Adam Smasher. The two appear with glitch effects—a hint that they exist only through Lucy’s memories.
In the world of Wuthering Waves, where memories can become real, David and Lucy are given the opportunity to see each other once more—even if it may only be a dream. Lucy can finally overcome her trauma and say goodbye to her partner and Rebecca. The scene is appropriately accompanied by the song “I Really Want to Stay at Your House” by Rosa Walton, familiar from the series.
Bartosz Sztybor, the producer and screenwriter behind Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, confirmedon Twitterthat parts of the event are canon—including the fact that Lucy and Misty know each other and talk on the phone. However, Sztybor deliberately left the reunion ending and David’s appearance open to interpretation.
But the fact that both Trigger, the animation studio responsible for Edgerunners, and developer CD Projekt RED collaborated on the crossover has convinced many fans that the events shown here are part of the official canon.
