“So good that it’s worth stealing” – Why a scene from God of War suddenly reappears in an Indian blockbuster

“A film takes more than just inspiration – and it’s immediately obvious”

Action games have been leaving their mark on the film world for years, but rarely has the influence been as visible as it is now. The God of War series, one of the most impressive action-adventure games since its 2018 reboot, sets standards in terms of impact, staging, and camera work.& nbsp;Anyone who has experienced Kratos’ battles knows how powerful every movement is. This is especially true of the legendary exchange of blows with Baldur, in which a tree trunk becomes a weapon and fire attacks only briefly dampen the drama.

This iconic scene has now reappeared in a completely unexpected place: in the Indian fantasy action film “Mahavatar Narsimha,” which was released last summer and is now also available on Netflix. A clip circulating on Twitter shows striking parallels. The fact that the game’s Norse mythology has as much in common with the film’s Hindu-influenced story as a Goomba has with a god of chaos makes the comparison even more surprising.

This is particularly evident in a compilation by one user who juxtaposes the camera angles of the game and the film. “This can’t be a coincidence,” he comments dryly – and the internet largely agrees with him.

“It’s an homage, not a rip-off – fans are taking it in stride.”

What is surprising, however, is how relaxed many viewers are reacting. Instead of an outcry, comments interpreting the scene as a tribute to God of War dominate. Again and again, you read sentences like: “Such borrowings only show how great the influence of the game is.” This quote describes well why hardly anyone is outraged by the obvious stylistic transfer.

Some users even draw further comparisons, for example to “The Incredible Hulk” from 2008, whose brutal fight scenes are also juxtaposed in the clip. What at first appears to be shameless copying thus develops into more of a little journey through pop culture references. Inspiration, according to the general consensus, is part of every art form. The deliberately drawn parallels could therefore be interpreted less as theft and more as a sign of respect.
In the end, one thing remains above all else: a curious moment that shows how far the reach and influence of a video game can extend – even to the dream factory that is Bollywood.
