“A war on two fronts” – EA launches attack on console cheaters
The theater of war in Battlefield 6 has reached a new dimension – this time outside the virtual battlefield. While PC players have been under increased scrutiny for months, EA is now turning its attention to a device that is notorious in the community: the Cronus Zen. This inconspicuous piece of hardware, which can be easily plugged between the controller and the console, enables macros, recoil compensation, and even advanced aiming aids – in short, it makes good players better, but cheaters virtually unbeatable.
For a long time, the device was considered “untouchable” because it works at the hardware level and could hardly be detected by common anti-cheat systems. But according to reports on platforms such as Reddit and Eurogamer, the first waves of bans are now rolling across consoles. Screenshots allegedly proving the bans are spreading rapidly.& nbsp;Some show three-day bans, others even permanent bans – but not all of the evidence appears to be genuine. Anomalies such as incorrect button displays fuel suspicions that AI-generated fakes are in circulation.
“We have our own macro detection” – Developers explain the new approach
Behind the scenes, Ripple Effect, the studio behind Battlefield 6, is working closely with Sony and Microsoft to detect hardware manipulation. Senior Console Combat Designer Matthew Nickerson explained in an interview:
“It’s unfortunate that cheating has become a problem in the console space, especially with Cronus Zen devices and so on. That’s why we’ve teamed up with PlayStation and Microsoft to develop a kind of detection feature.”
According to Nickerson, Battlefield 6 now has its own macro detection system. This system automatically analyzes conspicuous behavior such as unnaturally precise firing or uniform click patterns. The first results now seem to be emerging – even though the developers themselves emphasize that this is only the beginning.
Meanwhile, nervousness is growing in the Cronus Zen community forums. Insiders report that even the tool’s manufacturers are advising their users not to use it in conjunction with Battlefield 6 at this time. At the same time, many players are trying to stay under the radar by using their macros “cautiously.” But how long this will work is questionable, as EA seems determined to put a definitive end to the cheaters’ fun.
