The single-player shooter Industria 2 aims to carry on the legacy of Half-Life, and you can now test this promising title for free in a new Steam demo.

Are pure single-player story shooters in the tradition of Half-Life 2 or BioShock even being developed these days? German studio Bleakmill is stepping up with Industria 2 to answer that question with a resounding “Yes!” And the best part is: you can see for yourself right now, because a free demo is available on Steam for a limited time.

What is Industria 2?

Industria 2 is the sequel to the indie shooter Industria, released in 2021, and once again puts you in the role of scientist Nora. After the events of the first game, she finds herself in a bizarre and dark parallel world ruled by an uncontrollable artificial intelligence called ATLAS. Your goal is to survive in this surreal industrial landscape and find a way home.

In terms of gameplay, you can expect a classic first-person shooter with a strong focus on atmosphere, exploration, and a story full of twists and turns. The developers at Bleakmill promise significantly longer gameplay than its predecessor, in-depth weapon upgrades, and cinematic staging that conjures up impressive graphics on screen thanks to Unreal Engine 5—hopefully without any lag or other performance issues.

Comparisons with genre giants such as Half-Life 2 are, of course, no coincidence: the setting of a world controlled by an overpowering entity and the feeling of inferiority are strongly reminiscent of the Valve classic.

How to play the free demo

To give you an idea of what to expect, the developers have launched a public playtest on Steam. This demo is now available to anyone interested and will remain available until October 3, 2025, at 4 p.m. German time.

What can you expect in the demo? The playable section is taken from an early level of the game, shortly after the actual start of the game. As Nora, you must fight your way through an old factory building and encounter a character already familiar from the previous game.

Access is very easy: Visit the official Steam page for Industria 2 and request access to the “Industria 2 Playtest.” We’ve tried it out for you, and you’ll be granted access immediately after clicking.
