Just two days after the first update on April 25, 2025, Bethesda has released a hotfix for the TES4 remaster to fix issues with the first patch.
Hotfix removes DLSS and Co. from settings
According to a statement on the Bethesda support page the hotfix should only address a few things in the backend and have no impact on gameplay – which is why we haven’t seen any patch notes yet. It goes on to say:
W]e have seen that the UI of some Microsoft Store players is affected [by the hotfix] in terms of upscaling and anti-aliasing. All graphics settings that were adjusted before the Microsoft Store hotfix are still active and working normally. However, you will not be able to adjust these settings temporarily due to the UI issue.
So if you’re playing the remaster in Xbox Game Pass, the options for DLSS, FSR, etc. are grayed out and you can’t adjust anything at the moment. However, your previously selected settings should continue to work. Bethesda is currently working on a solution to fix the UI issue. We don’t know exactly when we can expect a patch, though.
Console versions do not appear to be affected by the current patch issues.
Workaround via console commands
If you want to bypass the patch error and still play around with your options, you can do so via the console, as user Crafty-Wishbone3805 posted on Reddit Warning: Using console commands will disable achievements in the game
- Open console: Press the key in the game
- For frame generation: Enter “Altar.DLSS.FG.Enabled 1” (without the quotation marks)
- For DLSS: Enter “Altar.UpscalingMethod 1”
Nothing will be displayed in the settings, and the UI error will remain. However, you can still set the options if you can’t do without them.
Even aside from the first hotfix, many players are complaining about performance issues, crashes, disappearing save files, and other technical problems. Much of this is considered to be teething problems with Unreal Engine 5. We will keep you updated as soon as Bethesda releases further patches and hotfixes. In the meantime, feel free to let us know in the comments how the remaster is running on your system.
