The wait is finally over: Escape from Tarkov will leave beta in 2025 and be released on Steam. But there are still several major updates to come before then.
After eight years in beta, Battlestate Games has finally announced a concrete plan for Escape from Tarkov: Version 1.0 is set to be released in 2025. But what’s even more exciting for many of you is that the hardcore extraction shooter is finally coming to Steam.
Escape from Tarkov is coming to Steam – but not until after 1.0
During a livestream over the weekend, the development team dropped the bombshell: Tarkov will leave beta in 2025.
And while there are still several updates to go before then, it’s now clear that Steam will be part of the game’s future. The only catch: the release won’t happen at the same time as the 1.0 release.
But there’s more: The spin-off Escape from Tarkov: Arena will also be released on Steam – even before the main game. However, an exact date has not yet been announced.
Roadmap to version 1.0
Before Tarkov goes into release mode, you can expect at least four more major updates:
- May: Performance optimizations and technical improvements
- June: Gameplay tweaks and audio improvements
- July: Revised gunshot sounds
- August: Rework of the Interchange map and a major new event

An early 1.0 release in 2025 seems rather unlikely. A date in the fall is more realistic – provided there are no further delays. And knowing Battlestate, it’s best not to make any firm plans.
The PvE mode, for which Battlestate originally charged €250, will also find its way onto Steam – but only after the 1.0 launch.
It will be interesting to see how Tarkov fares against the burgeoning competition. Bungie’s Marathon is already in the starting blocks as the next heavyweight in the extraction genre. Until then, Tarkov will remain exclusively available via the developer’s website.
