This week, indulge in the oil rush and seek your fortune in 19th-century America in Turmoil.

Alongside the gold rush, the late 19th century saw another feverish hunt for a valuable resource: oil. With the free game on Epic, you can plunge into this setting and build your own oil empire in Turmoil.

Turmoil

  • Genre: Management-Simulation
  • Developer: Gamious
  • Release: June 2, 2016

(On Turmoil surrounding Epic Games Store)

First things first: the 2D mining simulation is not one of those overly complex genre representatives for which you first have to complete a university degree to understand the tutorial.

The game runs in two alternating phases. In the city phase, you buy drilling rigs, personnel, horses for transportation and also upgrades. You also lease a piece of land on which you are allowed to search for oil.

In the second phase, you then search for oil wells on your land and place drilling rigs on them. You drive your pipes deeper and deeper into the ground to tap new wells. However, you have to be careful not to block your own path, because the pipes must not cross.

The aim is to sell as much oil as possible in order to acquire better equipment and new land, on the one hand, and to buy more city shares than the competition, on the other,in order to be able to become mayor later on

However, you always have to be careful to sell your oil at a good price. Furthermore, you have to deal with different types of rock, gas deposits and ice in the later stages and have the right equipment.

The game offers a career mode, a single-player settler mode with randomly generated levels and a multiplayer mode in which you can compete against other players.

On SteamTurmoil has received 92 percent positive reviewsbased on almost 12,000 ratings.

Who is it for?Turmoil is more of a game for in between and for fans of rather simpler management simulations or players who are looking for a change from complex game mechanics that are interlinked in several ways.

You still have until January 16, 2025 at 5 p.m. to get Turmoil for free from the Epic Games Store. There are also two paid DLCs, each with a new campaign and additional game mechanics.
