A statement from well-known League of Legends pro Yiliang “Doublelift” Peng has caused a stir in the LoL community, splitting opinion on the players’ union’s demands to Riot Games. The walk-out is in danger of failing.

Is the LCS Summer Split going ahead after all?

After the dispute between Riot Games and the players’ association (LCSPA) pointed to a cancellation of the upcoming season, there are now new developments that fuel the debate surrounding the protest action.

This dispute had most recently caused the delayed start of the League Championship Series summer season.

The LCSPA’s latest demands were answered in a statement from the Head of Esports. Four of the five points were rejected, citing large financial and staffing costs.

But not all pro players for the walk-out?

Since the statement of well-known eSportsman Yiliang “Doublelift” Peng about the upcoming summer season of the LCS, there are doubts about the protest action of the teams. In his stream, the 29-year-old said that unless a solution is found, he will choose to participate in the summer split. He might not be alone in that opinion.

The community is divided

After the American’s statements, opinions on social media have come to a head. Supporters of the players’ strike are fiercely firing against Yiliang “Doublelift” Peng, while other users are criticising the LCSPA’s points and leadership. According to critics, the demands cannot be met and compare the situation to the “classic” labour market.

Furthermore, the demands of the fifth point – cost sharing via affiliate partners – already exist. This shows that the players’ association did not research the points sufficiently before writing them. Other points of criticism are the high sums of money that are demanded and the losses due to the change of the league system that is to be introduced according to the LCSPA.
