EA announces Wild Hearts, a monster hunting game for single and co-op players. Here”s all the info and the first trailer.

EA announced the monster hunting game Wild Hearts. After Dauntless, another challenger enters the ring and vies for the favour of fans of Japanese giant beasts.

The framework first: Wild Hearts will be released on 17 February 2023 for PC, Xbox Series X/S and PS5. So it will be a current-gen-only title, leaving older consoles out.

The price is set at the 70 euros most recently estimated by many major publishers. The Japanese developer Omega Force (part of Koei Tecmo), known for the Dynasty Warrior and Samurai Warrior series, is responsible for Wild Hearts.

But what is Wild Hearts about? We”ll summarise it for you in a compact form.

This is what Wild Hearts looks like

To give you an idea, we show you the announcement trailer of Wild Hearts here:

An even deeper look at the gameplay will follow on October 5, EA announced via press release.

What Wild Hearts is all about

Clearly, the core aspects of Wild Hearts revolve around monster hunting:

  • Hunting monsters: You hunt large beasts called Kemono, which are fused with nature, as a single player or in co-op with friends or random teammates. They are said to be able to change the landscape in their favour in battle.
  • Nature-fused beasts:  There shall be different types of monsters that blend with different environmental elements, for example a Plant Squirrel, the Wild Boar Floragrunzer and the Winter Wolf Frost Grim

  • Coloured game world: Inspired by feudal Japan, the fantasy game world Azuma is not only meant to look chic, but also to contain many valuable materials. It is divided into several levels that correspond to the seasons. A central hub serves as the pivotal point, very similar to Monster Hunter World.
  • Crafting in a big way: You use found materials and monster loot to forge stronger equipment. In addition, defeated beasts drop special equipment, the so-called Karakuri. These are supposed to help you hunt monsters and traverse levels quickly, for example. Monster Hunter also contains similar mechanics.

Yosuke Hayashi, vice president of Koei Tecmo, explains what Wild Hearts is supposed to do:

WILD HEARTS opens up a vivid fantasy world for players that is as untamed as it is beautiful.
as untamed as it is beautiful. With WILD HEARTS, we not only wanted to show the evolution, the
fusion and the real threat of Kemono, but also to create a game where the crafting

to make our Karakuri combat-ready, and we look forward to players using these powerful

Probably not the last big competitor

It was apparently only a matter of time before other major publishers used Monster Hunter World”s huge success as a template for their own products. Microsoft is also reportedly working on a similar game.

What do you think of Wild Hearts? Do you like what is shown, do you see it as a dangerous competitor for Monster Hunter or do you prefer to stay true to the originals? Drop us a line in the comments
