What many players have suspected for months has now been confirmed by the developers – the Anti-Cheat Ricochet trolls cheaters in Warzone.
Invisible and silent enemies that are seemingly immune to damage. Players have been reporting strange occurrences in Warzone since February. Now the developers have given an answer that confirms the community’s suspicions.
Anti-Cheat Trolls Hackers
There is always widespread criticism of the anti-cheat measures in Warzone. On 26 April, the CoD developers announced on their blog that there was an update to the anti-cheat software Ricochet. The update brings all Ricochet drivers up to date in order to be more effective in the fight against the annoying cheaters. Since the last update, about 90,000 accounts have been banned for cheating. But the really interesting news in the article was hidden somewhere else.
For the first time, the CoD developers have admitted that cloaking exists in Warzone. What many players have suspected for a long time, and some of which has already been documented in videos, is thus officially confirmed.
Cloa…what?!
Cloaking involves applying what Activision calls “mitigation mechanics” to players who have been identified by the system as cheaters. Convicted hackers, for example, can no longer see, hear or damage opponents with weapons (Damage Shield). The rest of the lobby, which plays honestly, is cloaked to protect it from the cheater. The affected cheater does not notice this at first, until he is suddenly eliminated by an invisible and silent opponent.
Players who are detected as cheating can no longer see or hear opposing players in the game world thanks to cloaking. Characters, bullets and even sounds from legitimate players are undetectable to the cheaters. Legitimate players, however, can see cheaters affected by cloaking […].
The developers did not explain why players are not simply banned directly from the game. It is possible, however, that these mechanics are much more frustrating for cheaters than a simple account ban.
