Sony is going into competition with Microsoft and the Xbox and apparently wants to introduce its own “Game Pass”. The project is called Spartacus.

Sony’s PlayStation division is apparently planning a new subscription service, codenamed Spartacus, which will merge the offerings of existing subscriptions PlayStation Now and PS Plus. The system, according to a report by (Bloomberg), will be similar to Xbox Game Pass and thus compete directly with the Microsoft-licensed product.

The new PlayStation service will allow user:ins to pay a monthly fee for access to a variety of games. The games range from classics to current games and are intended to cover the history of all previous console generations.

The subscription service will apparently be available for the PlayStation 4 and 5 and is intended to completely replace the previous subscriptions. A launch is probably planned for spring 2022.

The price for the Spartacus project is not yet known, but it will probably also be based on Microsoft and the Game Pass. The latter currently costs 12.99 euros per month.

Although a major benefit of Game Pass is access to console-exclusive titles, reports suggest that Sony is unlikely to include PlayStation exclusives in the subscription right at launch. It is also expected that Spartacus will have multiple tiers. Again, Sony is taking its cue from Microsoft’s rival product. Exactly what the levels will look like is unclear so far. What is certain, however, is that fans can look forward to a reunion with old PS titles.
