As more and more veteran eSports organizations are bringing Valorant teams to the table, G2 Esports has now signed the first player for Riot’s Shooter.

The team captain of G2’s Valorant Roster is Oscar “mixwell” Canellas. The 24-year-old Spaniard should be especially well known to Counter-Strike fans. But he is now turning his back on the competitive CS:GO to start a new career in Valorant. Mixwell was without a team since November 2019. His former Cloud 9 colleagues Damian “daps” Steele, Kenneth “koosta” Suen and Timothy “autimatic” Ta were all signed by Gen.G in February. When Mixwell’s contract expired, he was on his own for a while. And Riot’s tactical shooter Valorant caught his attention.

Farewell to CS:GO
In a Twitter post he thanked the whole Counter-Strike community for the memories and support. In 2016 he made his breakthrough when he was signed by OpTic. And he is not a new face at G2 either: In March 2018 he was in the French roster for two months as a replacement for Richard “shox” Papillon.

So G2 also secures a CS:GO veteran as team captain. With HiKo, the 100 Thieves also got a big name from the Counter-Strike scene for Valorant.

Mixwell already with first successes
Just before it was announced that he would be playing at G2, Mixwell won the European side of the Twitch Rival: Valorant Showdown Tournament. Which players will be added to the roster is still uncertain. But G2, who are known for their strong social media work, posted a video in which the recruitment process is made fun of. You can find many Easter Eggs in the chat history.

In a statement by G2 Esports CEO Carlos “ocelote” Rodriguez, he said: “Valorant is a great game, it’s fun to play and to watch. G2 is going to be world champion and it all starts with Mixwel.” So there are great expectations of the newcomer, who has probably already been eyed with interest by some well-known organisations.
